Parenting priorities

Over the last three decades, Britons’ views have shifted on the key qualities that children should be encouraged to learn at home, with the main changes being a decline in the perceived importance of obedience and unselfishness and an increase in how much people value hard work and imagination.

And while the vast majority of Britons have consistently said it is especially important for children to have good manners, this has declined in importance elsewhere, particularly in the US, where good manners are now valued the least out of 24 countries included in the research.
